As the car manufacturing industries and Other nations try to scrap the use of gasoline fuelled vehicles by providing an alternative to electric vehicles. EV vehicles were equipped with electric batteries that stored the electrical energy used to run the electric motor.  Lithium holds as the main component of electric batteries.

At present all the electric cars in the car ecosystem are using lithum ion batteries as their source of energies. Cobalt is one of the mandatory compound in the manufacturing of EV car batteries. There is no other cobalt free EV batteries. This type of lithium ion batteries have higher energy density which was comparatively higher than lead-acid and nickel-cadmium batteries. Manufacturing of EV batteries includes only lithum ions  and not the lithium metal.

Components of EV batteries

The major chemical compounds of EV batteries include

  • Lithium

  • Cobalt

  • Nickel

These are the compounds that form the anodic and cathodic cells in the EV batteries. The motion of Lithium ions in the EV batteries generates power for the vehicle. It consists of copper-made foil in anode and aluminum-made foil in the cathode to collect the current.

The cell consists mainly of lithium ions. Electric power was being generated when lithium ions got mobilized from anode to cathode with the help of an electrode. In this way, EV batteries are being manufactured. Aluminum will be the major compound in making the body of EV batteries. While lithium, cobalt, and nickel have been used to carry out internal chemical reactions for generating electricity.

  • High voltage system and connector

  • Battery case

  • E-box

High voltage- system and connector

This part of the EV battery is responsible for conducting electricity inside the module. It conducts electricity while both charging and discharging. A high voltage connector serves as an entry point for electricity while charging and as an exit point while discharging.

Battery case

This part of the EV battery is responsible for holding the battery modules together. It holds nearly an average of 8 battery modules which has a capacity of delivering 13 kWh.

E-box

The E-box to EV battery is like the brain to humans. It is the powerhouse of the EV batteries where all the electronic controllers have been fixed.

These parts and other minor parts are held together in an assembling room where the EV batteries are completely sealed and glued, lasting up to the end of the battery life. Currently, researchers have been working to increase the recycling rate of EV batteries.
