History of Electric Cars
If we look over the history of electric cars and where it has been started? We need to travel long back towards the past. At present all the automobile manufacturers are considering electric vehicles as an alternative future technology to gasoline vehicles. If you compared the present scenario with the past scenario both will remain the same.
Present scenario
Gasoline automobiles are the primary cause of air pollution which leads to severe global warming crisis. In a country like India, price hikes in petrol and diesel are pushing the people to found out alternative energy.
Past Scenario
Around 1832, The first electric car by Robert Anderson got introduced. Later there was a development in electric cars up to 1930. The reason for the popularity of electric vehicles in the period of 1832 to 1930 was the high prices of automobile gas. People can afford electric cars rather than affording gasoline vehicles in that period.

The first phase of development on electric cars
Because of its compact structure and less polluting characteristic, new developments were made on electric cars. Electric carriage and Wagon Company of Philadelphia have made electric taxis in New York around 1897. These types of electric cars use batteries for their energy and stores the power in gas engines.

In 1989 the leading sports car manufacturer Porche introduced P1 (Egger-Lohner electric vehicle) which would give approximately 79km.
The first phase decline in electric vehicles
From 1832 to 1930, the availability of crude oil is much low which account for the high prices of automobile gas. But after the invention of Texas crude around 1935 gasoline vehicles becomes more affordable than electric cars mainly gasoline cars’ performance remains best at that time.

The rise of gas stations made the refueling process much easier than charging the electric car. Then the development of IC engines makes people forget about electric vehicles.
The second phase of development on electric cars
Similar to the current scenario, the gas prices around the world goes on increasing in the period between 1970 to 1980 which shifts the attention of people again to electric cars. Several marketing campaigns and marketing strategies have been used to promote electric vehicles.
For Eg, Nasa has sent the manned electric vehicle to drive over the moon.

One of the best-selling electric cars during the period 1974-1977 was Sebring-Vanguards Citicar. By manufacturing 2000 units, it has become the sixth-largest automobile manufacturer in the year 1975.
The second phase decline in electric cars
Though electric cars have gained popularity around 1979, they can match the performance of gasoline vehicles. People find it difficult for charging. The number of charging stations is very much low compared to the number of gasoline stations.
Current scenario
After imposing several pollutions regulating regulations and after the introduction of Toyota Prius in 2000, Tesla in 2008, Chevy Volt in 2010, and Nissan leaf again electric cars created a shift towards alternative energy.

At present Tesla’s Model S lists top in the range it provides. It provides 405 miles on a single charge which is quite higher than other EV’s. There will be a development and up gradation in their performance in the upcoming years.
