The Ministry of Power (MoP)  has announced the setting up of the EV charging station as a delicensed activity. For this, you need to fulfill certain requirements imposed by the Government of India. The requirements for Public Charging Station are

  • Transformers with substation equipment
  • 33/11 KV as metering cables
  • Circuit breakers
  • Minimum of one electric kiosk for providing multiple charging points
  • Land for providing charging space, entry, and exit of vehicles
  • If you are setting up the fast chargers then liquid-cooled cables are needed to charge fluid-cooled batteries.

Procedure for installing an EV charging station

You can open an EV charging station individually only after getting the clearance certificate from the electric inspector in the testing agency or from the lab accredited by National Accreditation Board for testing and calibration Laboratories.

The number of EV charging stations increases only if there is an increase in sales of electric vehicles. At present for setting up the EV charging station, requires approximately Rs.1 lakh to Rs.40 lakh. This will purely depend on the type of charger you wish to install.

Setting up an EV charging station will be the better option if it is going to be your second source of income. You can earn a profit over your capital investment only when the EV vehicles become a familiar transport option.
On the other hand Government of India has taken several steps to increase the sales of EVs and increasing the number of charging stations. At present, they made it compulsory to set up an EV charging station in cities for every 3 km and in highways for every 25 km.
